Amber Curl

Welcome back to Meet the Editors! We have a new semester, a new blog editor, and a slew of new editors at Jet Fuel Review. In keeping to old habits, we have decided to continue the Meet the Editors series every other Monday until all our new editors are introduced. First is our Asst. Poetry and Copy Editor, Amber Curl.

Amber is a senior at Lewis University majoring in Business Administration, with a minor in English Literature and Language. She works at Harrah’s Casino in Human Resources. She is a proud dog-mom of a crazy, Siberian Husky named Maya. In her free time, Amber enjoys reading and binge-watching TV shows on Netflix. Her current binge obsession is Law and Order: SVU. Amber also enjoys attending concerts and music festivals. Some of her favorite writers include J.K. Rowling, John Green, and Emily Dickinson.

Below is our Q&A with Amber Curl:

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Amber Curl. I’m a senior at Lewis. I just joined Jet Fuel Review and I am one of the Assistant Poetry and Copy Editors.

What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

Currently, I have Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain on my nightstand.

If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?

Past author: Edgar Allen Poe because I think he’s fascinating.

Current author: John Green because I love his work and I think we would get along well.

Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

My perfect reading atmosphere is curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket and hot cup of tea. Bonus if it’s raining or dark outside.

What might your personal library look like?

My ideal personal library is wall to wall shelves filled with books. It has all of my favorites, plus an endless supply of thrillers, mysteries, and poetry.

If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?

Allegiant from the Divergent series is one of the worst movie adaptations based on a book I’ve ever seen. They completely changed the entire storyline and ruined it.

What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

“We accept the love we think we deserve” The Perks of Being a Wallflower

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

Hermione Granger. She’s absolutely brilliant; she was my role model growing up.

Share your top favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).

  1. Harry Potter series (both books and movies)
  2. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
  3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (book and movie)
