Hello readers! We have geared into the new semester and are ready to bring back the Meet the Editors series for your enjoyment. Surprisingly, Jet Fuel Review has not received as many new editors as last semester, but it is still important to give a voice to the ones that have been recruited. It’s time to introduce the first new editor of this semester, an editor who is by no means a stranger to the literary. This week we are introducing Angela Ciarlette, Copy Editor; Fiction Editor.
Angela is a junior at Lewis University, and she is majoring in English with a concentration in writing. She aspires to be a legal immigration document proofreader in the hopes of making the process of becoming a legal citizen quicker. Exercising, reading, spending time outside, and spending time with her boyfriend are some of her favorite pastimes. As far as her favorite authors and bands go, she does not favor any in particular; she simply reads what looks interesting and listens to what is appealing to her.
Below is our Q&A with Angela Ciarlette:
Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Angela Ciarlette, and I am a copy editor and fiction editor for Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs , which I cannot wait to start reading!
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would co-write with Sara Zarr, author of Sweethearts because this book was my favorite as an adolescent; it connected to me in a very specific, bizarre way which makes me feel connected to the writer. I feel as though she is an old friend.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My room when no one is home because I can lay back on my comfy bed and have the hum of my fish filter as background noise.
What might your personal library look like?
It would be filled with books about spirits, reincarnation, and all religious explanations of the afterlife.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
I cannot think of any movies in this category: maybe Gábor Csupó’s Bridge to Terabithia
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
I’m not fond of reading anything more than once.
Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
“Give only if you are someone for whom giving is its own reward”
-Let Yourself Speak by Parker J. Palmer
This is not my favorite book, but I am currently reading it for a rhetoric class.
If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
L from Death Note
He is a young student that is the best crime solver in his world, and he is also a very strange person; I think meeting him would be a mixture of gaining knowledge and relishing entertainment
