Meet the Editors: Caeley O’Connor

Welcome back, readers! We hope you are enjoying your Saturday. For this week’s Meet the Editors, we’d like to introduce assistant poetry editor Caeley O’Connor.

Caeley O’Connor is a senior at Lewis University, majoring in Journalism with a minor in Creative Writing. She is also a copy editor for the school’s newspaper. In her free time, she enjoys writing, solving logic and cryptogram puzzle books, and listening to instrumental music. She is currently in the process of writing a fiction book, which she plans to publish in the future. Upon completing college, she is planning to go into the book publishing industry to help aspiring writers achieve their goals of publishing a book of their own.

-Who are you and what is your role in Jet Fuel Review?

My current role is Assistant Poetry Editor.

-What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

Moby Dick by Herman Melville.

-If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?

I would co-write with Stephen King because I admire his writing style as well as his way with words. The way he describes the various elements in his books is stunning, and I would find it an honor to co-write with him.

-Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

Somewhere quiet where there won’t be any distractions, sitting in a comfortable chair while wearing an equally comfortable hoodie, maybe with some music playing on my headphones.

-What might your personal library look like?

It has a lot of natural light coming through the tall windows. There are plenty of comfy chairs and poufs around to sit on. It’s quiet but not uncomfortably quiet to the point where if I made a sound, I’d be disrupting the atmosphere. The shelves aren’t extremely tall, and the books are organized neatly but not in a way that would make someone think a neat freak takes care of the library. There are some tables in sound-proof rooms where people can sit and discuss books together.

-If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?

Twilight.

-What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

Legend by Marie Lu.

-Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” — Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

-If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series. He is such a wise character, and I would want to ask him for advice on various topics and simply listen to what he has to say in general.

-Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).

  1. Deadpool
  2. The Hitman’s Bodyguard
  3. Star Wars: A New Hope
  4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  5. Divergent
