Happy Halloween, readers! This evening we will be introducing the last (but not least) of our new batch of editors, assistant prose editor and layout editor Brandon Peck. Brandon Peck is a senior at Lewis University. He holds a great interest in painting miniatures and writing stories in his spare time. In addition, he enjoys many different kinds of media, ranging from movies to anime to video games, always keeping up to date with the latest trends of the time. Some of Brandon’s favorite pieces of writing include Devastation of Baal, Baneblade, Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, and Fallout: New Vegas.

-Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Brandon Peck and I am an assistant prose editor and layout editor.

-What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

You might find various Warhammer books from Devastation of Baal to Baneblade.

-If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?

I would choose to co-author with Guy Haley. He has written some of my favorite stories in the Warhammer universe. The way he is able to describe the environment around him in order to really immerse the reader is quite enthralling. In addition, his characterization is always memorable and he isn’t afraid to pull devastating emotional punches throughout a story.

-Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

My perfect reading atmosphere would be under a blanket with a fan on in the background for white noise. I would have ambient music on in the background from either Lord of the Rings or some other orchestral piece and allow myself to become invested in the story.

-What might your personal library look like?

My personal library would feature tons of Warhammer 40k books, with several other books featuring sci-fi stories I have always meant to get around to reading like Dune.

-If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?

I would rewrite The Hobbit series of films. They have plenty of cool moments throughout them, but the CGI and filler story bog down whatever good was in them. This leads to a movie that is inferior to the Lord of the Rings in almost every way.

-What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

I can read Devastation of Baal over and over again. This story features the Super soldier space marine Dante as he leads a final stand against the alien menace known as the Tyranids. He has lived for over 1,500 years and wishes to die already, but through determination and will alone he pushes on, knowing that if he were to fall there would be no one else to take his place.

-Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.

“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

-If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

I would like to have coffee with the Doctor from Doctor who, the Matt Smith version specifically. He seems like a nice person to have a conversation with.

-Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).

  • Devastation of Baal
  • Baneblade
  • Django Unchained
  • The Two Towers
  • First and Only
