Welcome back, everyone! We hope the winter weather has been treating you all well as we transition seasons. For our first and only installment of our Meet The Editors series this semester, we’d like to introduce to you our newest staff member: Jovaughn Williams. Jovaughn is a Junior transfer student from College of Dupage. He’s majoring in English within the Writing concentration with a minor in Psychology. If he’s not getting his hands dirty in a sport, he likes to spend his free time writing stories, making videos, and hanging out with his friends. His major goal is to bring his writing skills to the next level, eventually becoming a novelist so he can spread his creative novel ideas to everyone around him. His favorite authors included the likes of Pierce Brown, James Dasher, and Cherie Dimaline.
Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
I’m Jovaughn Williams, and I’m a Prose editor for this issue (24) of Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
On my nightstand, you’ll most likely find comic books of varying series that I’m trying to finish up. Some of my favorites are the new 52’s Batman and The Flash series. Though if you must know a more traditional book series along my nightstand, it would be the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown.
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
That would have to be the late Stan Lee. I would have loved to get to right with him to help portray some of my favorite comics and characters. Though hopefully, my influences wouldn’t have made them worse.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My perfect reading atmosphere is pretty quiet all around me. It is also a place where I can be myself around that I’m quite familiar with. A view of the outside sun could help out a lot. Though the main thing for me is the music that silently plays in the background while I write. Depending on the music, it can help me focus on a particular piece helping me make it the best it can be.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
Honestly if not counting comic book shenanigans, The one that comes to mind is the Twilight movie series directed by Catherine Hardwicke. It’s one of those that I would give a complete revamp and make more unique.
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
I can honestly re-read a bunch of my comic book series, especially the new 52’s Suicide Squad series of books. I can’t stop reading them to the point where I wish the 2016 Suicide Squad movie was as enjoyable.
Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
Oh boy, where there are so many to choose from. Though one coming right off the bat is a quote from Transformers that says “There’s more to them than meets the eye.” This quote could be applied to us as people outside of its context since we are more than we appear to be for better or worse.
If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
Honestly, I would love to have dinner with Master Yoda from the Star Wars series, since he might have a lot of wisdom to provide and maybe can help me unlock potential force abilities, perhaps?
