Welcome back, everyone! We all hope the month of March has been treating you well. We at JFR have many new members of our staff for Issue 25 and we’d like to introduce you to one of our newest Prose Editors, Alyssa Khuffash! Alyssa is a Junior at Lewis University majoring in English with a concentration in Writing. She is also minoring in Creative Writing and Theology. She enjoys walking her dog, taking care of her plants, reading, and listening to music. Some of her favorite authors include Katherine Arden, Holly Black, and Madeline Miller. She hopes to improve her writing while at Lewis and apply her skills to her future as a writer.
Who are you and what is your role in Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Alyssa Khuffash. I am an English major with a concentration in Writing, and minoring in both Creative Writing and Theology. My role in Jet Fuel Review is Assistant Prose Editor.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
The book that you might find on my nightstand is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas as I am currently trying to reread the series.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
The perfect reading atmosphere is usually on the couch or in my bedroom with a blanket and sticky notes next to me, so I can mark certain moments that I liked. I also will have music playing, usually slower songs to help me concentrate.
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
The book I could read over and over again is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.
Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
A quote that I really like from The Princess and the Frog, which is one of my favorite Disney movies, is, “You wish and you dream with all your heart. But remember, that old star can only take you part of the way. You got to help it with some hard work of your own.” I like this quote because it’s not about abandoning your dreams; it’s about working hard toward them and trusting yourself with them.
