Shea.

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review

My name is Brianna Januska, and I am an Assistant Prose Editor for Jet Fuel Review

What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

Right now you can find many children’s and young adult fantasy novels, eagerly waiting to be used as an escape from reality for a chapter or two…or ten.  I love spending some time in a magical world to unwind after a long day.

Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

A comfy couch in a bright sunlit room.  The room would be quiet with the exception of some music playing softly in the background.  Overall, the room would feel warm and inviting, just waiting to welcome the opportunity to get wrapped up in a good book.

What might your personal library look like?

A warm and cozy space filled with positive and welcoming energy.  Neatly lining every empty shelf space is plenty of new and exciting options just an arm’s reach away.

What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

I could reread fairy tale retellings over and over again.  A thrilling blend of the new and familiar, each read offers plenty of unexpected twists and turns, helping to provide a new and exciting view of some already beloved characters.

Give us a quote from a book/movie.

From My Unfair Godmother by Janett Rallison: “That’s how life is.  You never know how it’s going to turn out, and you can’t plan for everything.  You just have to do your best dealing with things as they come and hope people forgive you when you make a mistake.”

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

Lyle from Lyle, Lyle Crocodile by Bernard Waber because the warm-hearted, lovable character is able to bring joy and adventure into every room he enters.

Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).

In no particular order:

  • Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger
  • Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flannagan
  • Summoner by Taran Matharu
  • Pegasus by Kate O’Hearn
  • The Snow Queen by K.M. Shea
