Welcome to another installment of Pick-a-Poem! For those who don’t know, that means we’re featuring another all-new poem that you probably haven’t read before. All of our poems come from Poetry Daily, which is a great resource if you’re looking for new poetry to read and discover on a daily basis. I highly recommend the site. This week’s featured poem is a short and sweet one titled Once it Stops, written by Florence Fogelin.
According to her page on Poetry Daily, the work of Florence Fogelin has appeared in publications such as Negative Capability and Cumberland Poetry Review. In 2001, she published a chapbook — Facing the Light – with Redgreene Press. Her poem “Voyage to the New World,” written in Spenserian verse, won third place in The Starving Romantics 1999 competition.
Once it Stops, by Florence Fogelin
Once it stops snowing
I breathe the color of nothing;
a porous sponge wipes the spilled skymilk.In drifts of small
and shrouds of soft,
doubting the existence of guardrails,I intuit my way home
to a dwelling, white embossed on white,
that hangs by a thread of wood smoke.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s short and sweet featured poem. For more of these posts, click here!
