Nicole Harn

Today we’d like to introduce you to one of our veteran editors, Nicole Harn. She joined the Jet Fuel Review staff three years ago as Web Master, and she keeps coming back for more! Nicole is currently a junior at Lewis University and is studying Computer Science as well as working toward a minor in English. In her free time, she likes spending time with family and friends or cuddling up with a good book in the sometimes bi-polar Chicago weather. Read on to learn some more about Nicole.

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Nicole Harn and I am currently a junior at Lewis University. I am the current Web Editor and Assistant Layout and Design Editor.

What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

Well I have gone the way of eBooks and currently reading two books on and off as I barely have time for pleasure reading. The two books I’m currently reading are Tempted, a book in the House of Night series, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

If you had the chance to co-write with one author, whom would you choose? Why?

If I could write with author it would have to be P.C and Kristen Cast. They are the writers of the House of Night series and I would just love to be able to see how they come up with the ideas that they put their main character Zoey through.

Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

I love reading in a place that is quiet and allows me to be able to read and see the movie that the author creates for me in my mind. It can be kind of hard to find a quiet place at home sometimes but as long as I started reading when it was quiet sounds don’t really bother me as I drift off into another universe when I read.

What might your personal library look like?

Well I have a mini library already created thanks to my father. On the top shelves are the most expensive leather bound books (Moby Dick, The Adventures of Huckle Berry Fin, Wizard of Oz, etc.). Then on the other shelves I have my not so expensive paper back and hard cover books which include The Freedom Writers, all of Sarah Dessen’s books, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, and many more that have yet to have been read.

If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?

I would have to remake The Great Gatsby (2013). I have seen both version of the movie as well as read the book and this version is just so far from the book and I believe if it were done differently maybe Leo would have won an award.

What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?

I read the freedom writers at least twice every time I am looking for something to read. I also love reading the sisterhood of the traveling pants series because it reminds me that no matter where I go in life I have a few friends that will always be there for me no matter how far or long we are apart.

Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

Movie and Book: “Love is patient and kind. It is never jealous, love is never boastful of conceited. It is never rude or selfish. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance, love will last forever.” -A Walk to Remember

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, whom would you most like to meet? Why?

I would love to meet Landon Carter from A Walk to Remember. I have always wanted to know why did he hangout with people that were not the best. I would also love to know what made him fall in love with Jamie.

Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included).

  1. The Big Chill
  2. A Walk to Remember
  3. Freedom Writers
  4. To Selena With Love
  5. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate but powerful beyond measure” -Nelson Mandela-
