Dominique Dusek
Welcome back, readers! In today’s installment of Meet the Editors, we’re going to meet Dominique Dusek, our Submissions Editors and Assistant Marketing and Development Editor. In addition to working on Jet Fuel, Dominique actively participates in Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honor Society, and shares her love of writing with the Lewis community as a tutor at the campus writing center. A consummate English nerd, she spends most of her free time if not reading and writing, binge-watching episodes of Sherlock on Netflix, jamming out to Frankie Valli, and riding her horse.
Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Dominique Dusek. I’m a senior English Major at Lewis University with a special interest in creative and professional writing and I am currently fulfilling the roles of Marketing and Development Assistant and Submissions Manager for the JFR.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
I am currently enmeshed in a book called The Lolita Effect which explores the idea of young women’s sexuality and how it is shaped by the media. So far, it has been pretty interesting and insightful and I would highly recommend it.
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would probably chose to co-write with Stephen King, not because I’m an avid fan of the horror genre but because I think his outlook on writing is interesting. His book on writing would be another read I would highly recommend.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
I love spending quiet, lazy afternoons buried under several blankets in my bed with a good book and a hot cup of tea. If it’s raining outside, that’s even better!
What might your personal library look like?
My personal collection of books is very diverse. It includes a wide array of fiction and non-fiction, all the great classics as well as some really bizarre titles including the Marilyn Manson autobiography.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
Chronicles of Narnia, any of them. I’m a huge fan and there have been so many bad adaptations, I don’t even know what to do with myself.
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
Again, Chronicles of Narnia plus, Harry Potter and pretty much any play written by Tennessee Williams.

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
I would most like to meet the narrator of Fight Club’s alter ego, Tyler Durden. We could swap soap making recipes and have pointless existential conversations.
