Miguel Gonzalez

Hello readers! In this week’s installment of Meet the Editors, we’re going to change things up a bit. We’re excited to introduce one of our film bloggers, Miguel Gonzalez. Instead of the traditional “Meet the Editors” questions, we asked Miguel film-themed versions of our standard questionnaire.  Miguel Gonzalez is an education major with a minor in Film. When he is not at school or selling tuxedos to gentlemen at work, he is working to become a Youtube/Vine personality. Miguel loves to watch a movie’s special features more than the actual movie. His other hobbies include drawing, hacky sacking, collecting screen-used movie props, and going on adventures with his significant other. We hope you enjoy meeting Miguel!

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Miguel Gonzalez. I am an education major with a minor in Film. I write about film-related topics for the Jet Fuel Review blog.

What film might we find in your DVD player right now?

I never leave a Blu-ray in my player because I like to take care of my movies. They are always in their case in my Spider-Man themed movie shelf. The last disc that was in my player was the special feature disc for Game of Thrones.

If you had the chance to direct a movie with any director, who would you choose? Why?

I would choose Kevin Smith because he is one of the last directors that does it for the love of the art instead of money lust. My other choice would be J.J. Abrams because he has a unique style that is very appealing. I feel like he would have a lot to offer in advice to make a movie look stylized.

Describe your perfect film-viewing atmosphere.

My movie heaven would have a personal IMAX screen in the basement with 7.1 surround sound. There would only be two or three people watching with me. The seats would be big leather recliners rigged with D-box simulators. To top it off I would have drinks and pizza readily available.

What might your personal film library look like?

I have an Amazing Spider-Man and a James Cameron’s Avatar promotional shelf that retailers use to display a new movie on Blu-ray. This is where I keep my library. All of my movies are Blu-ray special editions and they are in alphabetical order.

If you could “re-make” a poorly made movie, what movie would it be?

I always wanted to remake A Series of Unfortunate Events. Those were the books that finally got me into reading. Even as a child I was disappointed with the sad attempt at a movie adaptation. I always felt that those books deserved a PG-13 reboot because they deal with heavy material. I would love to bring justice to the series.

What film can you re-watch over and over again?

Every once in a while I pop in Hot Fuzz. It is one of those movies that I find hilarious every time. I almost have the whole movie memorized. I feel like that movie has its own brand of humor. This is coming from someone who does not like British humor.

Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) movie.

Although it is not my favorite movie, the first quote that comes to mind is from Iron Man. Jeff Bridges screams, “Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave… with a box of scraps!” It isn’t supposed to be funny but it makes me crack up every time.

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

I feel like Sherlock would be intriguing to meet. Even though the lore suggests that he acts like a donkey’s rear end, I would love to see his mind work. It would be like seeing magic in real life because he is so smart and very clever.

Share your top five favorite films.

My top movie list is always changing because it is hard to choose and my taste is always maturing. As of right now from they are James Cameron’s Avatar, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Hot Fuzz, and The Hangover. It’s not a sophisticated list but I genuinely enjoy these movies.
