Happy Friday, everyone and welcome back to our Friday Meet the Editor series!
Today our new featured editor wears many hats as Assistant Poetry Editor, Fiction Editor, and the Special Section Editor. She is none other than Lewis senior Bianca Apato! Bianca is studying English and secondary education. After graduation, Bianca hopes to work as a high school English teacher, but is also open to editing and publishing opportunities. Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Bianca Apato and I am the Special Section Editor, Fiction Editor, and Assistant Poetry Editor for the Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn. The students I’m currently observing for class are reading it and it’s pretty good so far!
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would love to co-write a graphic novel with Craig Thompson. He is an amazing artist and his stories inspire me to continue writing. I can’t draw, so co-writing with him would fulfill my dream of publishing a graphic novel.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My perfect reading atmosphere would be sitting in a comfy chair at Starbucks in an oversized sweater drinking a venti skinny vanilla latte (with soy milk and an extra shot of espresso, of course), and eating a slice of banana nut bread. I realize Starbucks is a totally cliche atmosphere for book-lovers, but it’s actually really calming and if you haven’t given into the stereotype yet, you should.
What might your personal library look like?
I’m warming up to e-books (I know, I know), so my dream library would be filled with special editions/autographed copies of my all-time favorite novels. So basically my dream library looks a lot like a book museum and I’m totally okay with that idea.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
I don’t believe in comparing books to their film adaptations because print and film are two completely different mediums. Can we all just agree that Twilight was equally as bad in film as it was in print?
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is one book I can read over and over again because each time I reread it I find something new in one of the vignettes that I didn’t catch before.

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
Chunky Rice from Good-Bye Chunky Rice because he is the cutest little talking turtle in the history of ever (a close second would be Squirt from Finding Nemo). If you think I’m crazy, Google him.

These books are in no specific order because I couldn’t choose a favorite even if I tried.
