Beware the Maze

Hello, readers and welcome back! This week we will be talking about The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

Some of you may have seen the movie adaptation that recently came out, but let me tell you, the book is always better (even if I did enjoy the movie). Thomas is confused, he wakes up in a box and can’t remember anything but his name. Where is he? Where did he come from?

Suddenly the box comes alive and starts moving upward. When the box stops moving, the doors at the top of the box are thrown open and sunlight streams in. The opening to the box is surrounded by teenagers who are all about Thomas’ age. Here’s the kicker–they’re all boys.

Welcome to the Glade, a place surrounded by a giant maze that always changes at night. There may not be a way out. As Thomas is shown around the Glade, he finds out that every month, like clockwork, a boy and supplies arrive in the Glade. He also discovers that none of the boys in the Glade can remember anything before waking up in the box. Who put them here and why? What is the point?

When the first day ends, Thomas is just as confused as he was when he woke up in the box, except now he has more to think about. The next day, Thomas gets assigned a job to see what he is good at. He needs to contribute to the Glade running smoothly. Everything is going well until the box alarm goes off…a month early. When the box is opened, there is only one thing inside: a girl.

What does this mean? Why send a girl into the maze? How can they escape the maze? Everything is changing in the Glade, the only option is to get out, but can they get out alive? All these questions and more are answered in The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Thanks for reading and check back for the next book of the week!
