Welcome back, readers, to another installment of Editor’s Notes. Before we begin, I want to remind everyone that this blog is connected to a literary journal called the Jet Fuel Review. The bloggers here are the editors of the Review, and while they’re working on blog content, they’re also working on the latest issue of the literary journal. If you’re looking for some writing advice, we’ve got it. Last week I wrote about the value of changing up what you’re reading. The books that you’ve been diving into recently might be having an effect on your writing. Check out the post to learn more. I also discussed writing in a non-linear fashion in order to get those awesome ideas out of your head and onto the page more quickly. Here are the blog, we have featured two new poems recently. The first was Map by Wisława Szymborska, and the other was Portrait of a Marriage as Library After Air Raid, London, 1940 by Cintia Santana.
In her “Before They Were Famous” series, Dominique talked about J.R.R. Tolkien, perhaps one of the most well-known authors, and how he got his start. For his “What Are You Watching?” series, Michael Cotter covered two more television shows in recent weeks — The Lizzie Borden Chronicles on Lifetime, and The Goldbergs on ABC. The blog has two new book reviews from Sabrina Parr. She has reviewed The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith and Drink Slay Love by Sarah Beth Durst.
Our film bloggers have been busy as well! Miguel Gonzalez wrote an intriguing review of Disney’s latest live-action venture, “Cinderella.” Does it measure up to the animated adaptation? Check out Miguel’s post to find out! Mike Egan wrote another post about “Interstellar,” this time focusing on the interesting use of sound (or the lack of sound) in the film. And Michael Lane wrote a review of the recently released horror film, “It Follows.”
Finally, this past week we had a new Faculty Feature on the blog. Dr. Therese Jones, professor at Lewis University, wrote about a trip to Hong Kong and the poetry that resulted from that trip. We also included two more folks in our “Meet the Editors” feature. Last week we met Theresa Marten, Assistant Creative Nonfiction Editor and Copy Editor at the Jet Fuel Review. This week we met Michael Lane, our very own horror film blogger.
