Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Monika Kois and I am the Assistant Web Editor for Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
Right now on my nightstand I have The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would co-write a novel with Nicholas Sparks because he is a romantic junkie just like me. I adore “feel-good” love stories, and I would love to brainstorm a new story about two people falling madly in love with each other.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My perfect reading atmosphere consists of my comfy bed, a cup of hot tea on my nightstand, and being wrapped up in all of my blankets and a snuggie.
What might your personal library look like?
My personal library would be something along the lines of Belle’s library from Beauty and the Beast. Realistically speaking though, I dream of having wooden bookshelves along the wall filled with historical books, autobiographies, cookbooks, romance novels, music books, and fiction books.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
One movie that I would “re-make” is The Da Vinci Code. I was captivated by the book entirely, but the movie did disappoint me.
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
I am always able to reread the Harry Potter series. I grew up reading these books and they are the reason I fell in love with literature. They always bring me back to my childhood memories of staying up past my bedtime to finish just “one more chapter.”
Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
My favorite quote is from my favorite book, Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover: “One of the things I love about books is being able to define and condense certain portions of a character’s life into chapters. It’s intriguing, because you can’t do this with real life. You can’t just end a chapter, then skip the things you don’t want to live through, only to open it up to a chapter that better suits your mood. Life can’t be divided into chapters…only minutes.”
If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
I would be delighted to grab coffee with Nick Caraway from The Great Gatsby. He may seem like a boring person, but I think an hour-long conversation with him would be fascinating. He was always in the background and I would love to ask about the parties and about Gatsby’s mansion.
