Hi, blog readers! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend and are ready for the week ahead. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks here at the blog, so there is plenty to catch up on. The Jet Fuel Review‘s submission period closed on October 15th, so I want to thank anyone who submitted their work. Now our editors will be busily reading and determining what will make up our newest issue, to be released later this year. For now, let’s take a look at what’s been going on here at the blog.
First, some writing advice. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the benefit of casting actors as your characters. It’s all pretend, of course, but it can be fun to imagine a movie of your book, and it helps to put a face to a name that you’re writing about. Just this past week, I wrote about letting your plot do its thing. The plot of your story can sometimes be cluttered by other story components, but it’s best to just let it be.
We’ve also featured some new poetry here on the blog, including Joshua Poteat’s Department of Acoustic Appliances and Alice Major’s Expanding space. We’ve also had two new installments of the Jet Fuel Jukebox. Be sure to check those out here and here.
There’s still time to watch some scary movies before Halloween! Don’t know where to begin? Lucky for you, our own Michael Lane has compiled a list of 13 horror films that are on Netflix, just waiting for you to watch them. You can read about these films in part one and part two of Michael’s comprehensive list.
Michael Cotter has written two new posts in his “What Are You Watching?” series. In recent weeks, he has reviewed “Grace and Frankie,” which is available on Netflix, and “Scream Queens,” which is now airing on Fox.
Jake Johnson, our music blogger, wrote a review on Selena Gomez’s new album, “Revival.” Michael Lane wrote a review of the new horror film “Crimson Peak.” Miguel Gonzalez wrote about the new Eli Roth film, “The Green Inferno,” as well as the concept of torture in film.
Finally, we’ve had two new “Meet the Editors” posts debut here on the blog. First, we featured Katelyn Bittke, our assistant copy editor and fiction editor. Then we featured Jeff Jurinek, the Review’s fiction editor, assistant non-fiction editor, and assistant layout editor.
