Good evening, blog readers! I hope your weekend has been going well, and I hope that you’ve been enjoying some real spring weather, just as we in the Chicagoland area finally have been. Before we get to a round-up of some recent posts, I have some exciting news about the Jet Fuel Review. The 11th issue of the Review will be launched this week on April 21st. If you’re in the area, stay tuned for more information about the actual launch event. If you’re just interested in what we have to offer in this new issue, it will be live on April 21st on the Jet Fuel website.
Now, onto the posts! Several weeks ago, I wrote a ‘Writing Advice’ post about plotting. If you’re looking for some new tips to get your story’s plot in order, check out the post. I also wrote about the potential power of the outline. There’s no need to fear its slightly regimented technique; it might just help you.
Of course, we’ve recently featured some poems on the blog. These include What I Wanted by Tracey Herd and Kindling by Sarah Rose Nordgren. Dan Fiorio has written several album reviews in recent weeks. His reviews include The Last Shadow Puppets’ Everything You’ve Come to Expect and Parquet Courts’ Human Performance. He also wrote up a post of must-listen March releases.
Recently, Michael Lane reviewed the film Hardcore Henry. Click here to find out what he thought of it. Haley Renison has written two more installments of her “Poetic Playlist” feature. These new posts discuss “Sloppy Seconds” by Watsky and “What the Water Gave Me” by Florence + the Machine, respectively. Gina Capperino’s latest post discusses the film adaptation of The Secret Life of Bees.
Finally, we’ve had some special features on the blog. One is a student feature from Liz Yolich, a Lewis University student, who wrote about the “classic” status of Jaws. There have also been two alumni features posted to the blog, one about former Jet Fuel Review managing editor Tim Fitzpatrick, and one about poet Susan Slaviero. And the final installment in our “Meet the Editors” feature for this semester introduced us to Armon Thurmond, Assistant Poetry Editor and Assistant Blog Editor.
