Unsurpassed by Autumn McClintock
No matter the theory
of relativity, our dependence on time, needfor space, none of it
can exceed light—movingahead of us, incrementally faster
in its tiniest waves, reaching Godmany million million
years from now, and howhe totally saw it coming, telescope-squinting
out the window, gaze on the coming glowtrending red as the universe
flings itself apart at the pour-rateof bottled ketchup
tilted nearly upside down, and isn’t it beautiful, the faceted sides of the glass,
salty sweet shine, luminous platewaiting to receive like a lake, still and brilliant and
sparkling: everythingmeasured against it.
