Happy Wednesday, readers! I hope that your weeks have been going well thus far. Now that we’ve reached the midpoint of the week, it’s time to feature a new poem here on the blog. If you’re looking for some new poetry to read, you might want to start here. These weekly poems all come from Poetry Daily, which is a great resource for discovering new poetry. This week we’re featuring Unsurpassed by Autumn McClintock.

According to her bio page, Autumn McClintock is a librarian who also writes poetry. She has a forthcoming chapbook entitled After the Creek. Her work has also appeared in publications such as B O D YDrunken Boat, RHINO, and THRUSH. She is a staff reader for Ploughshares.

Unsurpassed by Autumn McClintock

No matter the theory
of relativity, our dependence on time, need

for space, none of it
can exceed light—moving

ahead of us, incrementally faster
in its tiniest waves, reaching God

many million million
years from now, and how

he totally saw it coming, telescope-squinting
out the window, gaze on the coming glow

trending red as the universe
flings itself apart at the pour-rate

of bottled ketchup
tilted nearly upside down,

and isn’t it beautiful, the faceted sides of the glass,
salty sweet shine, luminous plate

waiting to receive like a lake, still and brilliant and
sparkling: everything

measured against it.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s featured poem! For more posts like this, click here.
