Hello, readers! This week we have someone who is not so new to the blog, and you’ve probably seen her name around — Assistant Blog Editor Bree Scott. She writes frequently for us and if you like what she has to say, then this is a good way to get to know her further.
Bree Scott, Assistant Blog and Poetry Editor, is a three-time transfer student and is currently in her junior year at Lewis University. She has her Associate of Arts degree from College of DuPage and is pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in English/Professional Writing and a Minor in Social Media at Lewis. She has had five original poems published in two issues of COD’s Prairie Light Review, and she was also an assistant editor on one issue. Bree enjoys longboarding with her friends, seeing movies, going to concerts, listening to poetic music, jumping out of vehicles to rescue animals, and going on camping trips.
Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name’s Bree, I’m an English/Professional Writing major and Social Media minor. I am the Assistant Blog Editor and Assistant Poetry Editor for the Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
One of my many college textbooks.
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I’d probably choose a poet. Emily Dickinson has always been an inspiration to me. If she was still around, I’d love to learn her techniques and the thought process behind her writing.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
So quiet that you can hear a pin drop, maybe a humming fan in the background, wearing comfy clothes, some good old air conditioning, wrapped in a blanket, and snuggled up in a comfy chair. Perfection.
What might your personal library look like?
Very random. I’ve got college textbooks I decided to keep rather than sell because I really enjoyed them (mostly short fiction or poetry books), novels from my high school English classes like Grendel and Into the Wild, several copies of two issues of the Prairie Light Review, The Walking Dead comics books, HP Lovecraft’s Necronomicon, etcetera.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
Honestly, I was so satisfied with how The Hunger Games movies went that I can’t really think of any bad ones right now.
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
I have a lot of favorites, so one of them is an excerpt from a poem by Emily Dickinson:
“Hope is the thing with feathers —
That perches in the soul —
And sings the tune without the words —
And never stops — at all —”
If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
Probably Louise from Bob’s Burgers. I’d just love to pick her brain about life.
