Hello subscribers! Jet Fuel Review is returning with a new batch of editors all eager to take part in a questions and answers for the blog counterpart. Our choice of Q and A isn’t by mistake, it is a quick way to get a look into the thoughts that whirl in each editor’s head. Our first starting editor for Fall 2019 is Jordan Benes and here is a little bit about her.
Jordan is a junior at Lewis University studying Health and Human performance to become an Occupational Therapist and she also has a writing minor. She chose to get a minor in writing because from childhood on she has had a love of reading and writing. Some of her favorite hobbies include hiking, reading, dancing, yoga, photography, painting, and listening to music. Some of her favorite movies and books include Jurassic Park, Jaws, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, It, 1984, and The Sword of Shannara.
Below is our Q&A with Jordan:
-Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Jordan Benes and I am an assistant fiction and nonfiction editor as well as the assistant art and designer editor for Jet Fuel Review.
-What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
It by Stephen King
-If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would like to co-write with Stephen King because I would love to learn about the writing process and get new and fresh ideas from him. He is inventive when it comes to horror and I have always wanted to better my writing in the horror genre.
-Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My perfect reading atmosphere is sitting outside on a sunny day with tea.
-What might your personal library look like?
My personal library comes mostly from my dad because he has been an avid reader since I can remember. Authors ranging from Terry Brooks (The Sword of Shannara), Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Andy Weir (The Martian); essentially, any science fiction writer. In my personal library I like to reread classics like 1984 by George Orwell, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I also enjoy non-fiction science works such as The Lives of a Cell by Lewis Thomas, Hardwiring Happiness and Buddha’s Brain by Rick Hanson, and 12,000 Dreams Interpreted by Gustavus Hindman Miller.
-If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief. Percy Jackson was my favorite series in middle school and the movies butchered the books.
-What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
1984 by George Orwell because I notice new things each time I read it and it was my favorite book in high school.
-Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
‘Tis but a scratch” -Monty Python and the Holy Grail
-If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
Jon Snow, Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones because I love the show and books, and of course to just meet three legends.
-Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).
