Welcome back to another Meet the Editor! Another Sunday is another editor we need to present, and we have a full meeting room. Today we bring you our new Social Media Editor, Lydia Kozlowski. Kozlowski is a new editor but is returning in spirit. Here is a brief bio from Kozolowski about some of the things she does on the daily:
“Lydia is a senior at Lewis University majoring in English with a concentration in Language and Literature, and minoring in Professional Writing. She enjoys reading short stories, dabbling with design, and writing consistently in her personal journals. Lydia also enjoys reading memoirs and watching documentaries. Along with being an editor for Jet Fuel Review, she is a Publicity Coordinator for Sigma Tau Delta Rho Lambda Chapter and a tutor and ESL/ELL Specialist at Lewis University’s Writing Center. Outside of her educational endeavors and commitments, Lydia stays active by running on nature trails and rollerblading around campus.”
Below is our Q&A with Kozlowski:
-Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
My name is Lydia Kozlowski, and I am the Social Media Editor as well as an Assistant Fiction and Creative Nonfiction Editor.
-What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
At this moment in time, you will find Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand on my nightstand along with a clip-on book light for nighttime reading.
-If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would love to co-write with Tara Westover, the author of Educated. Over the summer, this memoir moved me to tears on many occasions. I convinced my mother (who is an immigrant and claims she doesn’t read) to sit down with the book and give it a chance. To say the least, my mother and I now have something to have conversations about.
-Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
My perfect reading atmosphere is somewhere in the woods on a picnic table. I love to read among Mother Nature, especially when a light breeze passes by.
-What might your personal library look like?
My current personal library is a hodge-podge of genres. However, my ideal library is primarily poetry anthologies, memoirs, and fiction novels. This future collection lies on my Amazon wish-list.
-If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
I would “re-make” the movie Glass Castle (based on the memoir Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls). The movie overemphasizes a character’s role when he is only briefly mentioned at the beginning of the memoir. I would like to “re-make” the movie to resemble the memoir more closely.
-What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
A poem I can reread over and over again is “To Live in the Borderlands” by Gloria E. Anzaldua.
-Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.
“I have inherited her name, but I don’t want to inherit her place by the window”- House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
-If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
I would like to grab coffee with Jay Gatsby because I believe we could engage in authentic conversation outside of his mansion where extravagant parties and liquor often cloud his vision.
-Share your top five favorite pieces of writing (anything included, be it movies, books, etc.).
My five favorite pieces of writing include:
