Kelly Lyons
Hello readers, and welcome to this year’s last installment of Meet the Editors! Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lyons. Kelly is a senior at Lewis University. She is pursuing a major in English with a concentration in Creative and Professional writing as well as a minor in History. Because sitting in bed all day watching Netflix isn’t a paid profession, Kelly plans to find a job editing or publishing books once she graduates. Besides working on the Jet Fuel Review, Kelly is also an online editor of The Lewis Flyer and a tutor in the Lewis University Writing Center. When Kelly isn’t at school, she enjoys spending her time reading fantasy novels, shopping for clothes she doesn’t need, playing with makeup, and petting as many dogs as she can. We hope you enjoy learning a little bit about Kelly!
Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?
I’m Kelly Lyons, and I’m the Assistant Blog Editor and Assistant Non-Fiction Editor at Jet Fuel Review.
What book might we find on your nightstand right now?
Unfortunately I’m awful at reading for pleasure during the school year, so The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson has been living on my nightstand untouched since mid-September. I’ll get around to it once winter break starts when I can hibernate in my room and do nothing by read and sleep.
If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?
I would love to write with George R.R. Martin. It fascinates me how he is able to create and keep track of an entire imaginary world, and I’d love to experience his writing process. I would also attempt to convince him to tell me which characters die next so I can start my grieving process early.
Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.
Curled up in several blankets on my favorite chair during a winter day, preferably with an enormous mug of soy hot chocolate.
What might your personal library look like?
Ideally, the Beast’s library in Beauty and the Beast. Maybe I’ll get a little crazy and add some secret doorways in the shelves that hide reading nooks. And let’s throw in a hot chocolate machine for good measure. I’m not sure if that exists, but it certainly does in my dream library.
If you could “re-make” a poorly written movie that was based on a book, what movie would it be?
Now I don’t think they were poorly written per se, but I’d like to see the Harry Potter movies be made into a television mini-series or something of that nature at some point in my life. I understand that you have to sacrifice specific scenes and details when adapting to film, but I thought the fourth movie and onward really missed some key themes from the books. Maybe the young actors can even come back and play some of older characters- that would be the best!
What piece of literature can you reread over and over again?
I’m going to be painfully clichéd and say the Harry Potter series.

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?
I’d love to meet Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter (are we sensing a theme here?). For one, she’s a witch, and that’s freaking awesome itself. And she’s such a smart lady and a total badass in general. If she was real and could be my life mentor that would just be fantastic.
