Hello, readers and welcome back! This week we are going to look at Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.
Mare lives in a world that is divided by the color of your blood. In this world, there are Silvers and Reds. Silvers are the nobles and royals, while Reds are the peasants. Silvers all have special powers, which is what makes them different and strong.
Mare is just trying to get by before she is taken off to war just like her three older brothers. Anyone who doesn’t have a job by their eighteenth birthday is taken to fight in the war. Mare’s day is coming, and then the unexpected happens–Mare gets a job. And not just any job.
Mare gets a job working as a servant at the royals’ summer home. While preforming her duties, the unimaginable happens–Mare shoots lightning out of her hands. But Mare is a Red, and Reds aren’t supposed to have abilities. Because of this incident, Mare is forced into the role of a lost Silver Princess and is engaged to the second-in-line Prince.
Ripped away from her life and forced to hide who she really is, Mare is angry. Then she realizes she is in a unique position to help the rebel force, The Scarlet Guard. Mare gets ready to play a power game and maybe even change the rules.
Everything is changing for Mare and she might be in over her head. One wrong move and she will lose her life. This is a game Mare doesn’t understand, but she’d better learn quickly if she wants to get out alive.
Betrayal, death, and affection are all passengers on the wild ride that is Red Queen. Victoria Aveyard weaves an engaging story that leaves you on the edge of your seat.
