Continuing with our spring introductions here is Kandace Garcia! Kandace is a senior at Lewis University majoring in English with a concentration in Literature and Language. She is currently employed at the university’s Writing Center where she mentors fellow students. When not at school, you can find her at the gym, various escape rooms, or binge watching horror films while cuddling her four dogs. Kandace hopes to further her education in order to reach her goal of becoming an English professor.

Who are you and what is your role in the Jet Fuel Review?

My name is Kandace Garcia and I am a poetry and prose editor, Marketing and development editor, and Blogger.

What book might we find on your nightstand right now?

Currently I am reading The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis for class. Usually my textbooks follow me everywhere. Otherwise, I keep a copy of Shel Silverstein’s A Light in the Attic on my nightstand at all times for a small dose of humor and nostalgia on the particularly stressful days.

If you had the chance to co-write with one author, who would you choose? Why?

I am a sucker for horror so probably Stephen King since his experience and horror knowledge combined with my incredibly dark brain could potentially pair nicely.

Describe your perfect reading atmosphere.

A perfect reading spot for me consists of very soft, fluffy blankets, warm yellow lighting, a mahogany-teakwood candle, and a warm cup of coffee.

What might your personal library look like?

My library is filled with Classic literature and a few YA novels.

Give us a quote from your favorite (or any) book/movie.

“I wish I were a girl again, half-savage and hardy, and free” -Emily Brontë (Wuthering Heights)

If you were invited to have coffee with any fictional character, who would you most like to meet? Why?

I would love to meet John Kramer from the Saw franchise. I love that twisted guy. His brain is absolutely insane and the concept of morality is even crazier. I love him.
